About That Valdez, Alaska (August 2 - 3)

Dear Family and Friends,

Friday, August 2nd found us driving from Tok to Valdez, Alaska. It was a distance of 255 miles. Along the way I snapped a few pictures:

 Mt. Sanford

Look closely for the Alaska Pipeline

 Worthington Glacier

Bridal Veil Falls

Valdez, Alaska sits in the northeast corner of PrinceWilliam Sound, which feeds into the Pacific Ocean. The area is known for five glaciers, including Worthington (pictured above). The population of Valdez is 4,100 people. Average snowfall is 325.6 inches a year. In summer the temps average 54 degrees and in winter, they average 22 degrees. Valdez hosts the Alyeska Marine Pipeline Terminal, which is the southern most end of the 800 mile Alaska Pipeline.

Roger, Bear and I are here for two more nights before heading on to Palmer, Alaska. It is very difficult to upload pictures so I do not have as many on the blog as I would prefer. Hopefully my next blog will be sent in a week from Homer, Alaska.

Thank you for your interest in the blog. This is truly an incredible experience for us and we are treasuring every moment.
