About That DuBois, Wyoming (Part Two)( August 27 - September 1)

Dear Family and Friends,

This has been our second week at Longhorn Ranch RV Park, near the small town of Dubois. The picture below shows the site of the RV Park in relation to the Wind River. This park is located in a beautiful setting and is only three miles from the town of DuBois.

The painted mesas are separated from the RV park by the Wind River. This river is known for it's fishing.

The property is full of deer and this one was snapped outside our RV.

This week has given us a chance to take a vacation from our vacation. We truly enjoyed lazing around and visiting quirky places in the town of Dubois (pronounced like "dew boys"). The largest jackalope collection in the country is based here. A jackalope is a cross between a Jack Rabbit and an Antelope (if you believe such things). Trust me, people take jackalopes seriously around here.

Yeehaw! Not bad for a girl from Texas!

Georgia O'Keefe would have loved this!

I bet if nothing else, you are laughing by now at the quirky pictures. You can never say that this blog does not entertain!!!

On Wednesday, we drove 70 miles to the town of Lander, Wyoming (population 7,000).  Lander is seven times larger than Dubois. Along the way we spied two cowgirls moving their herd of Black Angus cattle down the highway. Only in Wyoming:

Ride em Cowgirls!

We reached Lander and were delightfully surprised with the town. Below is a picture of Main Street.

Back in Dubois, Roger, Bear and I took a hike along the Wind River that Eagle Scouts had made into a riparian path during the period of 12 years. What a great project!

Bear is so well trained for pictures.

The huge male Eagle continued to thrill us with his antics. The picture below does not begin to convey his enormous size. We did not get tired of watching him as he swooped along the river searching for fish.

Thank you for checking in with us this week. We have another week in Dubois and then it is off to Gillette. Wyoming is a beautiful state and we treasure our time in this part of the country.

  1. I had no idea that jackalopes could be saddled and ridden.
