About That Warden, Washington (July 1 - 8)

Dear Family and Friends,

We left the Seattle area, early Sunday morning, in the drizzling rain. Leaving early allowed us to miss the Pancake Breakfast (that was held across from our spot at the RV resort) and the Seattle traffic. We did not mind the rain as it was a light shower. We drove, in steady rain, on Interstate 90 up through national forests and Snoqualmie Pass (yes, there was snow on the mountain) and on the downward descent, began to see bright blue sky and sunshine. Although we treasured our month in the Pacific Northwest, we were delighted to arrive in Warden (in the mid-eastern, much flatter and drier part of Washington) for a week.

Warden was settled by the Bessarabian (Russian/German immigrants) in the 1800's. Warden means worthy or treasured (see what you learn along the way). After the Colombia River Project brought water to the area, a more diverse agriculture took root. In 1945, the water was diverted to the area from the Grand Coulee Dam and is now populated by roughly 72% Hispanics. Warden is a very small town with about 2600 people.

Our Tour is parked at the Sage Hills Golf and RV resort. This is the first RV park that we have seen attached to a golf course. Snowbirds use the RV resort to escape the heat of the summer and have access to lots of golf.

On a walk, Bear and I spied a beautiful garden with a lily pond.
The water from the Grand Coulee dam makes gardening possible. You can see the dry land in the back of this picture.

Irrigation for crops is a must.

Yes, we are in the country.

The rest of the week was spent cycling, walking, playing with Bear, reading, doing chores, meeting our fellow RVers and just enjoying our lives at a less hectic pace from the Pacific Northwest. We look forward to our move on Sunday morning to Coeur d'Alene, where we will enjoy a beautiful area of Idaho.

Thank you for taking the time to read our blog. We appreciate your interest in our lives.

  1. Beautiful pictures of Warden! I hope you don't mind, but I'd like to use one of your pictures for the background for the Warden community webpage.
