About That "Vacation" from the Vacation (May 26 - June 2)

Dear Family and Friends,

Roger and I have felt like we have been on vacation for the past two weeks.  Avid blog readers know that we have spent two weeks at the Blue Herron RV Resort located on the Klamath River, near the town of Hornbrook, California. We were 8 miles from the Oregon border. Though the resort is just 6 miles away from I-5, we had no cell phone reception and had to drive close to the interstate to get a signal. Thankfully, we did have internet service and our satellite TV.

The last week was spent hiking with Bear, cycling and just watching the Klamath River that ran in front of our site. With a huge patio area and great weather, it was so much fun to relax under the awning on the Tour. This is such a great area for birding, that you cannot help but pay attention to our feathered friends. Bear even enjoyed chasing the birds, but was surprised to find out how cold and wet the Klamath was. Fortunately Roger did not have to go in and retrieve him.

The pictures below show a ride around Iron Gate Reservoir. Water flows from the Upper Klamath into a series of four dams that regulate the flow of the Klamath River. This is California's second longest river after the Sacramento River. The Iron Gate Reservoir is the result of the Iron Gate Dam located one mile from our site on the river.

There are over 200 kinds of birds in the area. Hopefully you can recognize a pelican in the above picture.

The pictures below were snapped from our patio. Memorial Weekend found the Klamath River extremely busy with fly fishermen, kayaks and rafters. There were some small rapids in front of our site that made the trip down the river a lot of fun for the kayakers.

Thank goodness Bear did not go in after the rafts.

 Fun in the rapids.

We spent Thursday preparing for our move to Eugene on Friday. We were able to get in one last hike and I snapped the following pictures. With a beautiful blue sky and no cloud cover, Mt. Shasta was a picture I had to have.

Mt. Shasta can be seen from the top of our hike.
Snow covers more than half of the mountain.

On our way down, we saw feral horses in the distance. On one bike ride they were ten feet from us.

On the way down, Bear and Roger say goodbye to Mt. Shasta.

We left the Blue Herron Resort RV in Hornbrook, California, on Friday morning. We only drove 8 miles on I-5 before we crossed the Oregon border. We continued driving on I-5, through beautiful pine covered mountains and arrived in Eugene, well ahead of the rain showers that arrived in the late afternoon. Our new spot is at Eugene Premier RV Resort, which sits off of I-5 (convenient to everything) and is surrounded by pasture. Our MiFi card works great and we are happy to be back on the cell phone grid.

Thank you for checking in with us. During the next two weeks, we plan to explore Eugene, the surrounding areas and the coast along the Pacific Northwest.
